I Got Five On It - Ignorant and Irresponsible

The Story (Daily Comet):  Candy shaped like marijuana that’s showing up on store shelves around the country won’t get kids high, but aghast city leaders and anti-drug activists say the product and grocers carrying it represent a new low.

“We’re already dealing with a high amount of drug abuse and drug activity and trying to raise children so they don’t think using illegal substances is acceptable,” said City Councilmember Darius Pridgen. “So to have a licensed store sell candy to kids that depicts an illegal substance is just ignorant and irresponsible.”

The “Pothead Ring Pots,” “Pothead Lollipops” and bagged candy are distributed to retail stores by the novelty supply company Kalan LP of the Philadelphia suburb of Lansdowne. It also wholesales online for $1 for a lollipop and $1.50 for a package of three rings.

The Analysis:  Personally, I don't have five on it because I don't really eat much Candy. And neither will my children, especially this kind of Candy. People will sell just about anything to make a buck.  You got kids who can barely read or count.  I wonder whatever happen to the Luniz?
Nevertheless, please support a drug free America.  For information visit http://www.drugfree.org/

"Say Cheeeese"

The Story(Fox Sports):  According to reports, a man claimed he was injured during an exchange with Bryant at Sunday mass after the Lakers guard thought he spotted the man taking pictures of him on his cell phone.
The alleged incident occurred at St. Therese of Carmel Valley Church in San Diego, when Bryant allegedly grabbed the man's wrist and snatched the cell phone. He reportedly gave back the phone after seeing no pictures had been taken of him or his wife.  "We're attempting to interview all the [participants]," a San Diego police spokesman told the Times.  The man, who has not been identified, claimed he had to go to a hospital for treatment on his wrist.

Random funny pic i found on google!
The Analysis:  I get it.  What's the first thing you see at a concert or the first sighting of someone who is relevant in main stream pop culture...folks taking out their phones to take a picture.  The dude deserves some privacy but then again forget privacy...that picture would have sold for a couple hundred.  I wouldn't have done it because I value privacy...but that's just me.
Should Kobe have snatched the dude phone..."ya damn right."  Should Kobe have snatched the dude's wrist..."NAW!"

He might want to consider just buying his own church...#just saying!

Facebook Faces Down Phone Number Rumors

From the Washinton Post

By Hayley Tsukayama

Facebook says that they don’t publicly publish phone numbers. A message making the rounds on Facebook has prompted several users to raise the alarm about Facebook supposedly publishing the phone numbers of your contacts.

Facebook does list phone numbers that your friends have shared in the list of your contacts, and has listed that information in users’ private views of Facebook since launching Phonebook a few years ago. If you’ve synced your phone with Facebook, those contacts will appear as well.

Addressing the rumors, Facebook put up the following statement on the company’s page.

Rumors claiming that your phone contacts are visible to everyone on Facebook are false. Our Contacts list, formerly called Phonebook, has existed for a long time. The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers.

Facebook provides a link to let you remove the mobile contacts that it has synced from your phone, though your account will still display any numbers your friends have provided on their accounts. The site also gives instructions on how to stop syncing your iPhone with your account. To do that, head to the Friends icon in the main menu and you’ll see your Sync setting in the upper-right hand corner.

If you want to remove your phone number from Facebook, you can do so by heading to the “Edit Profile” link below your name and editing your contact information.

FF Part V - “So Much More”

@iTooDream
This record is the last song on the CD (well, the CD that I have) and fittingly, the last of the 5 part series. A cool and collective track, Big Sean spits about his past and how far he has come. He rhymes about vulnerability, specifically detailing a female who he says deserves a ring but also reveals the reality of fame (2nd set of lyrics below) which would make a woman who wants just as much, if not more from a man think twice about settling with him.  I hope the two of them get want they want, whatever that might be.

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: Crazy sample, mad as hell I can’t figure out whose it is…

Lyrics: Text from my mom said me and your grandma proud
I'm way too deep in the game to go sit back in the crowd
Teacher told me to get a job, save up for 401(K)
Man, I'd rather be young as shit counting 401k
I'd rather die with a smile instead

Man, I wake up to a wet dream
Every day's a Friday and every night's a sex scene
Every week is Fashion Week and every day I'm pressed clean
Detroit's angel, I even got red wings
Headed to the ball, me and three prom queens
It's prom night, and guess who's the prom king?
They having a kissing fight and I'm Don King
Everybody know I'm coming soon like Lebron's ring (Understatement of the YEAR)

Thoughts: “Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.” There is so much more to life…

FF Part IV - "Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay"

@iTooDream
If you need a catchy club hook, get at Roscoe Dash. Just ask Day 26 - Let it Go, DJ Drama - Oh My, and now Big Sean. Kanye West rips this track more so than B. S. This record is every DJ’s dream as it’s bound to get any party started or turned up a notch. And somewhere in Atlanta, some young lady after hearing this song has decided she wants to dance for a living…#TWERK TEAM!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: “Sexy Girl Anthem", "That’s Her", R.O.S.C.O.E. Mr. Shawty put it on me…gone!

Lyrics: (Kanye West) Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up
Talk to the, talk to the hand
You talking to a grown ass man
It's like, way way way too much in your pants for us not to make the bed squeak
(There goes the bed sheets)

Thoughts: “Wrap it Up” and “Drink Responsibly.” Someone is going to thank me later for this.

FF Part III - “Live this Life”

@iTooDream
Certain songs that are out there no matter what mood you are in, make you feel good. I’m thinking this could be another one to add to the list? The Dream blesses B.S. on the track and provides a smooth hook that the ladies can enjoy. Feel good summertime record, “It ain’t about the car but the person* that’s up in it.” That line is for anyone driving a car made in the 90’s (me :)!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: The inner wannabe DJ in me will be adding this track to the play list... #4theladies

Lyrics: Cause it's already night time
And I feel like the right time
Twisted on my fingers
Like the young PAC (shout out to the Mrs.), BIG but she just call me DAD
I do it

Oh shit I'm finally famous
And I'm rolling with the mother freakin* top down
How can you blame us?
I wanna break you off like right now

Thoughts: You don’t have to be famous to enjoy and live life.

FF Part II - “Memories”

@iTooDream
Anybody else on this record other than John Legend and it flops. Soulful up-tempo record where if I didn’t know any better, I’d say he’s been through some ish. But in the words of the wannabe Basketball Wives,"We’ve all been though some ish.” I was hooked on this record from the very beginning…"Sometimes I dream bigger than I live."

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: How the hell he get John Legend on this record…#G.O.O.D.

Lyrics: Are you willing to give up what you love, for who you love
Or lose your girlfirend to groupie love
Everywhere I go I get a group of hugs
That's what happens when they need connections and you the plug

Thoughts: Cherish the people and things that matters most, they make the best memories.

FF Part I - “My Last"…"I Do It”

@iTooDream
Any record that Chris Breezy hops on is just about fire these days, including the smash single “My Last.” While that record deserves a shout out, the rest of Big Sean’s CD definitely holds its own, and it starts with the track below.

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: B.S. been waiting a long time to shine, you can hear it his lyrics and this is a Club Record for the D-Boyz

Lyrics: I waited my whole life to be the man of the hour
Really can’t lie, I was the man when I started
I will be the man when I die
Man these girls, take your money
And I take their virginity
I’m high, I split an O in half, now it’s a parenthesis

Thoughts: Where the heck is J.Cole’s CD? Check out that last line of the lyrics above…how many music heads got that the first time around?

Finally Famous Blog Series

It’s the third installment of my 5 Part blog series…First Drake, then J. Cole and now Detroit’s Big Sean has burst on the scene with his first LP, Finally Famous. To be perfectly honest, the first time I heard this cat, I thought I was listening to Kanye West. Even after listening to him a second time in addition to finding out he’s signed to G.O.O.D. Music, his style still favors Kanye West a little. Regardless of what his music sounds like or who he’s signed with, dude goes hard. There are 12 tracks on his CD, I listen to all but 1, maybe 2 religiously.  "Now step a side and watch a real blogger* do it.”

Here’s the “Intro” to keep you interested.  Check back over the next few days to see if your favorite record off the album makes the cut.  @iTooDream

"Blessed"

18-year-old gives his $40,000 scholarship to other teens
The Story (MSNBC) This is a story of a teenager who did something so generous — so big-hearted — that it’s making plenty of adults swoon.

Allan Guei, 18, was a star basketball player at Compton High School in the Los Angeles area before he graduated last month. He also had a GPA above 3.0, and his good grades made him eligible for an unusual competition: A free-throw contest in the Compton High gymnasium. The top prize: $40,000 in scholarship money.

But Guei couldn’t stop thinking about the seven talented runners-up from the free-throw contest. They, too, had dreams — and very real needs. So, he asked Principal Jesse Jones to make a surprise announcement at Compton High’s graduation ceremony: Guei wanted to donate the $40,000 to the other seven students.

Guei elaborated on his decision to give the money away in an interview with ESPN: “I was already well taken care of to go to school, to go to university for free. ... I felt like they needed it more than I did.”

The Analysis: Honestly, I can’t even imagine having a full scholarship and then receiving a $40,000 scholarship. I would be thinking about buying my mother a car or buying my dad some new gadget as an 18 year old. But for Allan to do what he did, it’s a blessing for not only those seven students, but for him as well. The video below is a shout out to him. As a 17-18 year old, what would you have done?

"I'm Coming Out"

Nooo, not me, but former and current athletes and those associated with college and professional athletics.  I think its neat that straight athletes (so they say) like Michael Irvin are supporting the cause.

Former Dallas Cowboys great Michael Irvin appears shirtless on the cover of this month's gay men's magazine Out and discusses his passion for equality issues.

Michael Irvin appears on the latest cover of Out Magazine. He tells the publication that he would support any athlete who comes out.

Irvin publicly acknowledges that the impetus for taking a stand comes from his relationship with his gay brother, Vaughn, who died of stomach cancer in 2006. Irvin had not spoken publicly about his brother previously, according to the magazine.  In the article, Irvin describes how his brother's sexual orientation contributed to his own issues.  Read more on the article here.

Bottom line, it is what it is.  What are you going to do about it?  Stop supporting your favorite team because they have an athlete or general manager or coach who is gay.  Probably not!  Does homosexuality have a place in sports?  I'm not totally sure but its slowly creating a comfortable spot for itself with the recent coming out parties of Will Sheridan, former Pitt player, and Phoenix Suns general manager Rick Welts

Now all they need is Rajon Rondo to come out, then they will be all the way in there...no pun intended.  WHAT...don't judge me, I just said what many of you were thinking.

"Metta World Peace"

Ron Artest has and his people filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday seeking the change. The 31-year-old NBA star was born Ronald William Artest Jr but now wants to change his name to Metta World Peace.

In the court documents, Artest cites personal reasons for wanting to make the change.  And people thought Artest was crazy for thanking his hood and psychiatrist after winning an NBA championship.  Turns out he just might be.
Sidenote...I think he should have changed it to "Mo Betta Blues," it sounds better.

"My Bad" - @iTooDream

Macy's ad wrongfully congratulates Heat

My bad, well not my bad, but their bad.  Nevertheless, a full-page ad that ran in Monday's Miami Herald reads "Congratulations Miami" next to photos of Heat championship T-shirts and hats from Macy's. One T-shirt reads "Heat 2011 NBA Finals Champions" and the ad shows the Heat's logo on a hat with the words "NBA Champions."

The ad ran under a story about the Heat's loss.  Way to kick a team while they are down.  I think it's crazy how all of this hate is in the air towards Lebron James. #Leavethemanbe. I know one thing, LBJ better not catch Deshawn Stevenson in the streets...just he might go ham on him!

"Pryor Engagement"

The Story (ESPN): Terrelle Pryor's career at Ohio State, which started with so much promise and potential, came to an abrupt and scandal-ridden end.

The Ohio State quarterback announced through his attorney Tuesday that he would not play for the Buckeyes this season. He had already been suspended for the first five games for breaking NCAA rules by accepting improper benefits from the owner of a tattoo parlor.

The Analysis:  One unselfish act could have prevented all of this from happening. When OSU discovered that Pryor and others had received improper benefits back in early December 2010, they should have suspended them from the Sugar Bowl, told the truth (including the coach), and moved on. Pryor most likely would have declared for the NFL draft and OSU probably would have saved a little face, especially for being honest and upfront. Jim Tressel would still have his job as well.

Yes, the Buckeyes (Shout out to Lorain, OH’s favorite son Eddie Kane) probably would have lost the bowl game and a few million dollars. But now they stand to lose far more than a bowl game and all because of selfishness, greed, and more importantly…WINNING. The NCAA which allowed Pryor and others to play by slapping a soft 5 game suspension should share some of the blame.

I just LOL at the thought of Maurice Clarett sitting back somewhere with his feet up saying “karma is a bi*tch…”  And he couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Take the Fall Semester Off...w/ Benefits

To Expand Access, U. of Florida Prepares to Roll Out a No-Fall-Semester Option

The Story (Chronice of Higher Ed):  The University of Florida is planning to grow again, but in an unusual way—enrolling 2,000 students in a spring and summer cohort. They will be full-fledged undergraduates, but they will be allowed to live and take classes on the campus only during those semesters for the entire time they're at the university.

Those students could still participate in on-campus activities in the fall—yes, they'd be eligible for football tickets—and would be able to enroll in online courses if they wanted to move more quickly through their coursework. Others might opt to study abroad, work, or do internships away from campus in the fall.

To read the full article, click here.

The Analysis:  The news of UofF creating this option has implications that could impact public universities across the country, starting with UofF and those schools in the state of Florida.  The UofF alone has 35,000 undergraduates.  To give you an idea of how large of campus that is, there are roughly18,000 in Chapel Hill.  Offering a spring-summer term alone could impact course offerings, cost to pay faculty to teach, financial aid, and overall budget of the university.  Florida administrators I'm sure has thought this over.  But what about the overall student experience?  Academically, socially?  Can you think about the potential risk?  Are student athletes eligible for this option, especially the high profile ones?

Social groups/clubs/fraternities/student government take off in the fall, with planning and implementation and some groups initiate new members during that time.  During the summer, there is not entirely a lot to do other than to attend class and work.  How long will it take to graduate if they are attending only in the spring and summer?

Regardless of some of the questions I've raised, I honestly think this experiment will work although it may take a few years.  And as the article details, it may prove profitable for the university in the long run.  But at what cost and who expense?
