FF Part V - “So Much More”

This record is the last song on the CD (well, the CD that I have) and fittingly, the last of the 5 part series. A cool and collective track, Big Sean spits about his past and how far he has come. He rhymes about vulnerability, specifically detailing a female who he says deserves a ring but also reveals the reality of fame (2nd set of lyrics below) which would make a woman who wants just as much, if not more from a man think twice about settling with him.  I hope the two of them get want they want, whatever that might be.

FF Part IV - "Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay"

If you need a catchy club hook, get at Roscoe Dash. Just ask Day 26 - Let it Go, DJ Drama - Oh My, and now Big Sean. Kanye West rips this track more so than B. S. This record is every DJ’s dream as it’s bound to get any party started or turned up a notch. And somewhere in Atlanta, some young lady after hearing this song has decided she wants to dance for a living…#TWERK TEAM!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: “Sexy Girl Anthem", "That’s Her", R.O.S.C.O.E. Mr. Shawty put it on me…gone!

FF Part III - “Live this Life”

Certain songs that are out there no matter what mood you are in, make you feel good. I’m thinking this could be another one to add to the list? The Dream blesses B.S. on the track and provides a smooth hook that the ladies can enjoy. Feel good summertime record, “It ain’t about the car but the person* that’s up in it.” That line is for anyone driving a car made in the 90’s (me :)!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: The inner wannabe DJ in me will be adding this track to the play list... #4theladies

FF Part II - “Memories”

Anybody else on this record other than John Legend and it flops. Soulful up-tempo record where if I didn’t know any better, I’d say he’s been through some ish. But in the words of the wannabe Basketball Wives,"We’ve all been though some ish.” I was hooked on this record from the very beginning…"Sometimes I dream bigger than I live."

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: How the hell he get John Legend on this record…#G.O.O.D.

Lyrics: Are you willing to give up what you love, for who you love
Or lose your girlfirend to groupie love
Everywhere I go I get a group of hugs
That's what happens when they need connections and you the plug

Thoughts: Cherish the people and things that matters most, they make the best memories.

FF Part I - “My Last"…"I Do It”

Any record that Chris Breezy hops on is just about fire these days, including the smash single “My Last.” While that record deserves a shout out, the rest of Big Sean’s CD definitely holds its own, and it starts with the track below.

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: B.S. been waiting a long time to shine, you can hear it his lyrics and this is a Club Record for the D-Boyz

Finally Famous Blog Series

It’s the third installment of my 5 Part blog series…First Drake, then J. Cole and now Detroit’s Big Sean has burst on the scene with his first LP, Finally Famous. To be perfectly honest, the first time I heard this cat, I thought I was listening to Kanye West. Even after listening to him a second time in addition to finding out he’s signed to G.O.O.D. Music, his style still favors Kanye West a little. Regardless of what his music sounds like or who he’s signed with, dude goes hard. There are 12 tracks on his CD, I listen to all but 1, maybe 2 religiously.  "Now step a side and watch a real blogger* do it.”

Part V. Home for the Holidays

This track is probably one of his most personal records on the mixtape. His lyrics speak to larger issues that deal with bullying and self-confidence. I’m trying to think of some instances where I was affected by such issues in high school.  I've noted a few instances below where I don't know who was actually behind the act, but nevertheless, I wanted to show them some love on my blog.  May they continue to be blessed.

Punchline 2: was just a freshman could used a little Kool-aid
crushing on them upper classmen but it was too late

I want to shout out whoever it was that stole my lunch money out of my pants pockets while I was in gym class in my freshman year of high school. And the person who rode the same bus as me that decided to pour water in my book bag and soaked up all my textbooks and notebooks. And whoever it was that stole the Pre-Calc teacher from Canada’s grade book and flushed down the toilet in the boys restroom across the hall from her classroom…punch line 1 is for you!

Part IV. Blow Up

“This is a song for my haters. Ya'll got me feeling like the greatest.” - J.Cole

I honestly think sometimes people misidentify the “haters” in their life. In addition, “haters” are not always people that are preventing you from blowing up! We should also be aware of these haters as well:

credit cards

student loans

a purse that cost over $100.00

sunglasses that cost over $20.00

a single clothing item that cost over $65.00

And that’s just name a few…

Part III. In the Morning

Renegade. Mr. Carter. Miss me. Most notably, the first two rap titles are songs where the featured artist on the song dropped the dopest lyrics and unanimously upstaged the other artist. Eminem hands down gained the respect of Jay-Z on renegade. However the self-proclaimed real President Carter while giving props to Lil Wayne took the opportunity to make it clear that he hasn’t lost his touch in a classic song that I only hear while listening to the Rickey Smiley Morning show out of Dallas and of course Q.93 while visiting New Orleans. The record below has Drake’s name and style written all over it and while J. Cole did his thing, Drake win’s round one of I’m sure, many more to come.

Punchline: I’m joking, I mean that thing is poking

I mean I got this hidden agenda that you provoking
I got bath water that you can soak in

What’s better: the morning rendezvous without taking a shower and brushing your teeth or something poking out “more” than the girl in the U.S. Open? LOL!

Part II. The Autograph

J. Cole impresses with humble lyrics about being broke while also possessing a confident swag about being in a better place now because of his music. Before last year, I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought a CD. It was probably when lymewire made my second laptop (I blame the first one on CCI/napster) crash and right around the time YouTube was getting popular so there was no need to. I’ve bought a few over the past year. Can’t wait to add J. Cole to the collection.

Society itself spends money on the things that are not healthy for the body and soul: fast food, beer, tobacco, etc. However we steal illegally borrow music and in the process cause more damage to our personal or work computes (some people) than we ever know. And I’m sure there is some flea market vendor right telling me to **** *** ***!

Part I. Villematic

I don’t think I’ve ever hear heard another rapper who’s not from one of the five boroughs in New York rep their city (Fayetteville, NC) as much as J. Cole. I’m not complaining either…(also check out “Too Deep for the Intro”)

Cole raps over a smooth sample and beat with a first line that is relevant to every college student waiting on a refund check that’s going to get them through the next few months. He also presents the realization that with an economy that doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon, life, like school, will have its challenges.

"Cole World"

I went home to visit my family in Louisiana, the exact time evades me, but when I returned to North Carolina, I started passing out cd’s to friends. The artist, as I had learned from my cousins Pye and Butta had aligned (unofficially) himself with the Young Money crew. He goes by the name of Drake. I opened up my blog with a 5 part series on his music.

A few years later I’m back with another artist from a city I also call home and this time, his cd was passed to me. I’m still getting warmed up to “The Warm Up” mixtape but ever since NS handed me his flash drive and presented me with a copy of “Friday Night Lights,” I’m not sure I’ve heard a better young and upcoming mainstream lyricists and I’m willing to argue that while his buzz may not be on the level of Drizzy Drake, his lyrics are just as good, maybe better. I’m back with a 5 part series on J. Cole. Part I from his latest mixtape is on tap. In the meantime, here is a teaser from one of his previous mixtapes.

Nooo...not guy who does the mixtapes (LOL)!  I'm referring to to the large family enterprise/corporation of Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith.  The two alone are very successful in terms of their own careers (understatement).  Now their kids (IJM thinks they are annoying) on are on deck. 

From one empire to another, word is their daughter Willow is on the verge on signing with Jay Z's Roc Nation.  As a fan of music, how can you not like the song below, especially if you listen to Keri Hilson..I'm just saying!

"I'm Back..." Part 3

" The Unthinkable"

-  When will the BET Awards ever be a match for MTV, how the heck you present Prince, wearing his bedtime clothes i might add, with an award and not get him to the perform...major letdown! "I would die for you" is my jam!
-  Eminem just might be the best at selling records, Drake almost made the list of having the hottest mixtapes, but a weak album...he probably could have left 3 tracks off.
-  If you close your eyes and play a Trey Songz track, he sound just like R. Kelly...YUP!

Final Analysis:  Alicia Keys did what every girl now a days (at least it seems that way) wants to do and that's marry or settle for being with a baller although, ONE, she didn't have too, b/c she's already ballin.  Besides, who else do you know 3 months preggars and can roll around on a piano (I"m thinking Beyonce) and TWO, was Swizzy already taken?  Not according to the NY law.  Now that North Carolina law is something else, just ask Fantasia.

“To Infinity through Perseverance”

Sometimes it’s not a matter of how, but when. And even after that it’s not a matter of when, but for how long? I’m sure if you asked the latter question to Jeff Moonie Jr., it wouldn't be hard to find an answer, to infinity through perseverance.

It’s a 2005 summer night in downtown Charlotte. I’m not afraid to admit it now but frankly it was my first time being in that specific area, looking up at the gigantic buildings that make up part of the Charlotte, North Carolina skyline. The exact location escapes me but most likely somewhere on Tryon, go figure. It was also the first time I met Jeff the musical artist, the film writer/producer/editor, the talent.

But unless you sat down and had a conversation with him you wouldn’t know that there was more to the boxing fan and collector of every hip hop magazine ever published or at least it seemed that way to me. I recollect seeing pictures of the UNC alum’s (go HEELS) family members on his fireplace mantle and the only word that can come to my mind now is indescribable, because only he can find the right word or words to describe a delicate, yet precious pass, marred by the tragic death of sister, the lost of his father, and deferred dreams. I never asked him to find the words. I didn’t have too.

The hundreds of pictures that covered the walls of his creative and musical think tank up-stairs told even more stories, not to mention the words of encouragement from friends and followers who at some point in time stopped by to show their support and undoubtedly inspire productivity.

And that was just the beginning. While there are constant reminders of the past, deferred dreams are now becoming his reality. Jeff filmed a critically acclaimed documentary titled “Donor” in which he won top prize at the Asheville Film Festival in 2005 as it detailed his father’s fight and battle with graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).

Since then, the award –winning director, producer, writer, and editor has moved out to California, continuing to pursue his dreams, while impressing upon his followers those near and afar. Musically, under the stage name Jeff Lucky, he recently released an official leak from the upcoming album Soul Motivation. In addition, Jeff’s original songs and lyrics were featured in an episode of CBS’s Cold Case back in November 2009.

In addition to music, he’s continuing to make an impact through film with his company Dark Prometheus Films. Says Jeff in a phone interview from California, “I realized that I couldn’t do one without the other,” in reference to his passion for continuing work in both music and film. And on that cool summer evening… that started for me with a drive through the breezy mountains of Asheville, NC from Tennessee, to meeting up with a few fraternity brothers exploring downtown of the Queen City, refusing to pay to enter a night spot where the cover was not in the budget of a grad student and a couple of undergrads…we waited! Soon after I would first learn of Jeff’s perseverance as we all pitched in to help sell CD’s of the well received Love Letters the E.P. out of the front seat of his black Ford Explorer. And it was right then and there I realized the potential. The same potential Jeff already knew existed.

An Omaha, Neb. man said romance turned to revenge when he was victimized by his girlfriend and then exposed on Facebook.

He said that he didn't realize his 21-year-old girlfriend had caught him flirting with another woman on Facebook.

He said he also didn't know that she had his Facebook password until he had agreed to be handcuffed to his bed and photographed.

"Gimme Twenty Dollars"

The NFL should really be called the No Fun League.  I have to give it to Chad Johnson, T.O (when he didn't play for Buffalo), and others mad props for making the game entertaining.  Roger Goddell need to stay off them steroids and relax.  Chad OchoCinco, although he shouldn't, probably will be fined a large amount of money for trying to give that official a dollar.  "Probably should have gave him twenty..."
