Facebook Faces Down Phone Number Rumors

Facebook says that they don’t publicly publish phone numbers. A message making the rounds on Facebook has prompted several users to raise the alarm about Facebook supposedly publishing the phone numbers of your contacts.

Facebook does list phone numbers that your friends have shared in the list of your contacts, and has listed that information in users’ private views of Facebook since launching Phonebook a few years ago. If you’ve synced your phone with Facebook, those contacts will appear as well.

Addressing the rumors, Facebook put up the following statement on the company’s page.

Rumors claiming that your phone contacts are visible to everyone on Facebook are false. Our Contacts list, formerly called Phonebook, has existed for a long time. The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers.

Facebook provides a link to let you remove the mobile contacts that it has synced from your phone, though your account will still display any numbers your friends have provided on their accounts. The site also gives instructions on how to stop syncing your iPhone with your account. To do that, head to the Friends icon in the main menu and you’ll see your Sync setting in the upper-right hand corner.

If you want to remove your phone number from Facebook, you can do so by heading to the “Edit Profile” link below your name and editing your contact information.

And another…first the cornball that got handcuffed to his bed by his ex girl, then the various teachers across the world, a few in the QC, one recently in this area who was suspended for what her friends wrote on her page, and now an athlete from the Bad News Ducks (Oregon) gets kicked off the team because he updated his facebook status after the arrest of a teammate for suspicion of driving under the influence. In his post, Jamere Holland wrote: "I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I'm misunderstood." This is after he mistakenly concluded that his teammate got kicked off the team and blasted the program calling it unfair and damaging to the team.


First off, I got two words for him...”NOT OWT.”  At what point as young person do you say to yourself somethings are just not worth it.

Secondly, all of this leads me to the first question, is there privacy on facebook? That’s an easy one! The answer is NO. I always say that when you post a personal picture, status, comment, etc, you are inviting everyone into your home/personal life. Trust me, I’ve tried to set all the privacy settings I can, but facebook will change their system every 3 months and your page becomes public all over again.  Why bother right?

More importantly, should people be fired, kicked off athletic teams, not hired/considered for jobs because of facebook? Whatever happened to freedom of speech and expression?

Nothing, because there are spirited ways of expressing yourself. The reality of it is…some people just don’t belong on facebook. Especially them party promoters who be sending all of them party invites! LOL!

An Omaha, Neb. man said romance turned to revenge when he was victimized by his girlfriend and then exposed on Facebook.

He said that he didn't realize his 21-year-old girlfriend had caught him flirting with another woman on Facebook.

He said he also didn't know that she had his Facebook password until he had agreed to be handcuffed to his bed and photographed.
