Part I. Villematic

I don’t think I’ve ever hear heard another rapper who’s not from one of the five boroughs in New York rep their city (Fayetteville, NC) as much as J. Cole. I’m not complaining either…(also check out “Too Deep for the Intro”)

Punchline: It's the feeling in the air you bout to drop a real classic
He said Cole, "a lil birdy told me on the low you got an Illmatic"
Nobody touching Nas *dude* it's more like Villematic
These fayettnam tales be paying off well
What story is my audio theatre gon tell
I know my debut will ship, but is it gon sell?

Cole raps over a smooth sample and beat with a first line that is relevant to every college student waiting on a refund check that’s going to get them through the next few months. He also presents the realization that with an economy that doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon, life, like school, will have its challenges.

"Cole World"

I went home to visit my family in Louisiana, the exact time evades me, but when I returned to North Carolina, I started passing out cd’s to friends. The artist, as I had learned from my cousins Pye and Butta had aligned (unofficially) himself with the Young Money crew. He goes by the name of Drake. I opened up my blog with a 5 part series on his music.

A few years later I’m back with another artist from a city I also call home and this time, his cd was passed to me. I’m still getting warmed up to “The Warm Up” mixtape but ever since NS handed me his flash drive and presented me with a copy of “Friday Night Lights,” I’m not sure I’ve heard a better young and upcoming mainstream lyricists and I’m willing to argue that while his buzz may not be on the level of Drizzy Drake, his lyrics are just as good, maybe better. I’m back with a 5 part series on J. Cole. Part I from his latest mixtape is on tap. In the meantime, here is a teaser from one of his previous mixtapes.

I couldn't resist...had to give y'all another from his latest...

"Gone for Good"

In the video below you will find Renardo Sidney, up in the stands throwing haymakers at his Mississippi State teammate, fresh off a one-game suspension from his coach and a week or so removed from an NCAA-imposed suspension that lasted all of last year and the first nine games this season.
Clearly, Sidney’s a mess.

The 6-foot-10, 275-pound Mississippi native should know better. No, make this he has to know better than to get into it with teammate Elgin Bailey with all the world to see.

Check out this article from Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports.com about how Sidney is falling from the graces of college basketball, and no one is to blame but his...family.  Sad but true!

"A$$ Backwards"

The Story(ESPN):  Terrelle Pryor and four teammates were suspended Thursday by the NCAA for the first five games of next season for selling championship rings, jerseys and awards. They also received improper benefits -- from up to two years ago -- from the tattoo parlor and its owner.
Along with Pryor, leading rusher Dan Herron, No. 2 wide receiver DeVier Posey, All-Big Ten offensive tackle Mike Adams and backup defensive end Solomon Thomas must sit out the five games.
Pryor must repay $2,500 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring, a 2009 Fiesta Bowl sportsmanship award and his 2008 Gold Pants.  Herron must repay $1,150 for selling his football jersey, pants and shoes for $1,000 and receiving discounted services worth $150. Posey must repay $1,250 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,200 and receiving discounted services worth $50.  Adams must repay $1,000 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring. Thomas must repay $1,505 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring for $1,000, his 2008 Gold Pants for $350 and receiving discounted services worth $155.

The Analysis:  5 games, how about sitting out the upcoming bowl game.  The NCAA has set a huge double standard.  Dez Bryant (former Ok State WR) who plays for the Cowboys gets suspended an entire season for misleading the NCAA however he did not take any money.  Nor did he sell items to earn a profit.  Nor are we aware of him receiving improper benefits while in school.  Pryor is not even going to be around next year to sit out those games.

If I was Dez Bryant, Reggie Bush, and the entire UNC Tarheel Defense, I'd be SMDH too...

"Special Delivery"

...Literally, I just found out about this.  The man who is "almost" single handled responsible for bringing the Harlem Shake dance to the world's attention just "delivered" himself to police.  I'm just glad he did the right thing although, at what point do you just let it ride?

MTVNEWS Former Bad Boy MC G. Dep admitted this week to fatally shooting a man nearly 20 years ago.

The New York Post reports that on Wednesday, the 36-year-old rapper, born Trevell Coleman, walked into the 25th precinct in Harlem and confessed to killing a man way back in 1993.

"I shot and killed someone 17 years ago," he reportedly told an officer at the precinct.

According to the Post report, Dep told police that he was riding a bike when he approached his victim, 32-year-old John Henkel, on Park Avenue and East 114th street near the James Weldon Johnson housing projects. Dep, just 18 years old at the time, was planning to rob Henkel, but when he resisted, shot him three times in the chest with a .40-caliber hand gun. He then fled from the crime scene and threw the gun into the East River. Henkel was pronounced dead at St. Luke's hospital.

"My Blog was on my Mind"

I've been working too hard, haven't been blogging as of late...but I got yall...I promise.

Thought I'd share this music video.  If you don't know the story of Minnie Riperton, you should.  Very touching story.  Saw the TV one special...so so SAD.

"Referee gets Wrecked"

(ESPN)A Florida high school basketball player has been suspended from school and won't be allowed to play again after slamming a referee to the court during a game.

When he was called for a technical foul, Holland confronted the referee, pushed him, then grabbed him and tossed him to the floor.

As a basketball official myself, should be allowed to swing back?  He probably wasn't even the star player on the team.  So not cool.

"I'm Already Home" - UNC Homecoming 2010

Homecoming - an annual school or university reunion for graduates
                     - GHOE
                     - GHOW
                     - GHOP Greatest Homecoming on the Planet = UNC-Chapel Hill

Homecoming - a gathering of sorts that last over a few days in a town or city that you will forever be indebted to (literally) and that you hope one day your kids will follow in your footsteps and be admitted, then enroll, and then graduate.  If this doesn't apply to you, you either here for the women, men, or both; not to mention the parties.

I'm not a gambling man, but I'd bet on the fact I am 100% certain to hear every last one of these quotes over the course of the weekend...(my response to the questions)

                     - "Just win baby win"
                     - "So what do you do now?" (I sell toilets, shout out to MShack)
                     - "Are you married yet?" (NAW, but one day soon)
                     - "Where are the neo's.
                     - "Ya Bullsh*tt*n"
                     - "Set it Owt" (no, I'm old)
                     - "You have an extra ticket?" (What do I look like)
                     - "How do you know her?" (I don't)

And finally when they ask me where do you live and or when are you leaving town, my response is... "I'm Already Home!"  (As I walk away setting owt my favorite hop....)
