Melo to the Lakers? - "The Big Three Examination"

Lakers and Nuggets are in Talks with Knicks and T-Wolves still in the picture...

If this happens, the Lakers will go from being beatable this year, especially with the Spurs and Thunder on a roll in addition to the Celtics and Hear, to being unstoppable.  Hands down, and I'm not a Lakers fan, just a "wanna be" sports analyst.  Carmelo's jumper paired with Kobe Bryant will be a tough match up for everyone in the Western Conference.  With the possibility of this trade happening, I've decided to examine poke fun at "The Big Three's" around the NBA.

The "Most Known" Big Three:
Lakers:  Kobe, Gasol, Carmelo (if trade happens)

Celtics:  Peirce, Allen, Garnett

Heat:  Wade, Bron-Bron, Bosh

The "Under Appreciated" Big Three
Oklahoma Thunder

Thunder:  Durant, Westbrook, Jeff Green (from Georgetown)

Spurs:  Duncan, Parker, Ginobli

Hawks:  Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Hortford

The "Quiet Storm" Big Three
Jazz:  Williams, Millsap, Al Jefferson

Hornets:  Chris Paul, David West, Okafor

Bulls: Rose, Boozer, Jokim Noah

The "Overrated" Big Three
Magic:  Nelson, Howard, Turkoglu/Arenas

Mavericks: Dirk, Kidd, Terry/Chandler

Nuggets:  Billups, Nene, Melo (if not traded)

"We Up Next" Big Three
Knicks:  Stoudamire, Ray-Ray (Felton), Danilo Gallinari

Blazers: Roy, Aldridge, Greg Oden Andre Miller

Memphis:  Mayo, Conley, Randolph

Charlotte Bobcats Jordans Flight

The " Overpriced We Gettin' Money" Big Three
Bobcats:  Gerald Wallace, Stephen Jackson, Boris Diaw

Suns: Nash, Carter, Grant Hill

Cavs:  Mo Williams, Antwan Jamison, Hickson

  1. I don't think Carmelo would be a solution to the slump the lakers have been experiencing. Carmelo's style of play doesn't help to fix the Laker's current team problems which include: lack of defense and hustle for long stretches in the game, "toughness", lack of good role/bench players.

Melo would be another offensive threat but that doesn't translate into championship-style bball bc I question his ability to stop/slow down another players on defense.

None of this even addresses the idea of Melo and Kobe playing together. Most of the successful big three work in one of two schemes: either all three players are unselfish ie. Spurs, Celtics, Heat, (Mavs, Knicks -kinda) OR you have a clearly dominant front man who is your go-to player and the others work off of him ie. current lakers (KOBE w/ gasol, odom/bynum/artest), Hawks (Johnson), Bulls (Rose), Nuggets (Melo), Bobcats (Johnson), Jazz (Williams).
    - Melo/Kobe doesn't fit neither of these schemes. Even when melo was on the USA team, he was leading the team in scoring but not much else. I don't see Kobe turning over the keys to LA that easily which works against Melo's style of play.
