I Got Five On It - Ignorant and Irresponsible

The Story (Daily Comet):  Candy shaped like marijuana that’s showing up on store shelves around the country won’t get kids high, but aghast city leaders and anti-drug activists say the product and grocers carrying it represent a new low.

“We’re already dealing with a high amount of drug abuse and drug activity and trying to raise children so they don’t think using illegal substances is acceptable,” said City Councilmember Darius Pridgen. “So to have a licensed store sell candy to kids that depicts an illegal substance is just ignorant and irresponsible.”

The “Pothead Ring Pots,” “Pothead Lollipops” and bagged candy are distributed to retail stores by the novelty supply company Kalan LP of the Philadelphia suburb of Lansdowne. It also wholesales online for $1 for a lollipop and $1.50 for a package of three rings.

The Analysis:  Personally, I don't have five on it because I don't really eat much Candy. And neither will my children, especially this kind of Candy. People will sell just about anything to make a buck.  You got kids who can barely read or count.  I wonder whatever happen to the Luniz?
Nevertheless, please support a drug free America.  For information visit http://www.drugfree.org/

"Say Cheeeese"

The Story(Fox Sports):  According to reports, a man claimed he was injured during an exchange with Bryant at Sunday mass after the Lakers guard thought he spotted the man taking pictures of him on his cell phone.
The alleged incident occurred at St. Therese of Carmel Valley Church in San Diego, when Bryant allegedly grabbed the man's wrist and snatched the cell phone. He reportedly gave back the phone after seeing no pictures had been taken of him or his wife.  "We're attempting to interview all the [participants]," a San Diego police spokesman told the Times.  The man, who has not been identified, claimed he had to go to a hospital for treatment on his wrist.

Random funny pic i found on google!
The Analysis:  I get it.  What's the first thing you see at a concert or the first sighting of someone who is relevant in main stream pop culture...folks taking out their phones to take a picture.  The dude deserves some privacy but then again forget privacy...that picture would have sold for a couple hundred.  I wouldn't have done it because I value privacy...but that's just me.
Should Kobe have snatched the dude phone..."ya damn right."  Should Kobe have snatched the dude's wrist..."NAW!"

He might want to consider just buying his own church...#just saying!

Facebook Faces Down Phone Number Rumors

From the Washinton Post

By Hayley Tsukayama

Facebook says that they don’t publicly publish phone numbers. A message making the rounds on Facebook has prompted several users to raise the alarm about Facebook supposedly publishing the phone numbers of your contacts.

Facebook does list phone numbers that your friends have shared in the list of your contacts, and has listed that information in users’ private views of Facebook since launching Phonebook a few years ago. If you’ve synced your phone with Facebook, those contacts will appear as well.

Addressing the rumors, Facebook put up the following statement on the company’s page.

Rumors claiming that your phone contacts are visible to everyone on Facebook are false. Our Contacts list, formerly called Phonebook, has existed for a long time. The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers.

Facebook provides a link to let you remove the mobile contacts that it has synced from your phone, though your account will still display any numbers your friends have provided on their accounts. The site also gives instructions on how to stop syncing your iPhone with your account. To do that, head to the Friends icon in the main menu and you’ll see your Sync setting in the upper-right hand corner.

If you want to remove your phone number from Facebook, you can do so by heading to the “Edit Profile” link below your name and editing your contact information.

FF Part V - “So Much More”

@iTooDream
This record is the last song on the CD (well, the CD that I have) and fittingly, the last of the 5 part series. A cool and collective track, Big Sean spits about his past and how far he has come. He rhymes about vulnerability, specifically detailing a female who he says deserves a ring but also reveals the reality of fame (2nd set of lyrics below) which would make a woman who wants just as much, if not more from a man think twice about settling with him.  I hope the two of them get want they want, whatever that might be.

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: Crazy sample, mad as hell I can’t figure out whose it is…

Lyrics: Text from my mom said me and your grandma proud
I'm way too deep in the game to go sit back in the crowd
Teacher told me to get a job, save up for 401(K)
Man, I'd rather be young as shit counting 401k
I'd rather die with a smile instead

Man, I wake up to a wet dream
Every day's a Friday and every night's a sex scene
Every week is Fashion Week and every day I'm pressed clean
Detroit's angel, I even got red wings
Headed to the ball, me and three prom queens
It's prom night, and guess who's the prom king?
They having a kissing fight and I'm Don King
Everybody know I'm coming soon like Lebron's ring (Understatement of the YEAR)

Thoughts: “Laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.” There is so much more to life…

FF Part IV - "Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay"

@iTooDream
If you need a catchy club hook, get at Roscoe Dash. Just ask Day 26 - Let it Go, DJ Drama - Oh My, and now Big Sean. Kanye West rips this track more so than B. S. This record is every DJ’s dream as it’s bound to get any party started or turned up a notch. And somewhere in Atlanta, some young lady after hearing this song has decided she wants to dance for a living…#TWERK TEAM!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: “Sexy Girl Anthem", "That’s Her", R.O.S.C.O.E. Mr. Shawty put it on me…gone!

Lyrics: (Kanye West) Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up
Talk to the, talk to the hand
You talking to a grown ass man
It's like, way way way too much in your pants for us not to make the bed squeak
(There goes the bed sheets)

Thoughts: “Wrap it Up” and “Drink Responsibly.” Someone is going to thank me later for this.

FF Part III - “Live this Life”

@iTooDream
Certain songs that are out there no matter what mood you are in, make you feel good. I’m thinking this could be another one to add to the list? The Dream blesses B.S. on the track and provides a smooth hook that the ladies can enjoy. Feel good summertime record, “It ain’t about the car but the person* that’s up in it.” That line is for anyone driving a car made in the 90’s (me :)!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: The inner wannabe DJ in me will be adding this track to the play list... #4theladies

Lyrics: Cause it's already night time
And I feel like the right time
Twisted on my fingers
Like the young PAC (shout out to the Mrs.), BIG but she just call me DAD
I do it

Oh shit I'm finally famous
And I'm rolling with the mother freakin* top down
How can you blame us?
I wanna break you off like right now

Thoughts: You don’t have to be famous to enjoy and live life.

FF Part II - “Memories”

@iTooDream
Anybody else on this record other than John Legend and it flops. Soulful up-tempo record where if I didn’t know any better, I’d say he’s been through some ish. But in the words of the wannabe Basketball Wives,"We’ve all been though some ish.” I was hooked on this record from the very beginning…"Sometimes I dream bigger than I live."

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: How the hell he get John Legend on this record…#G.O.O.D.

Lyrics: Are you willing to give up what you love, for who you love
Or lose your girlfirend to groupie love
Everywhere I go I get a group of hugs
That's what happens when they need connections and you the plug

Thoughts: Cherish the people and things that matters most, they make the best memories.

FF Part I - “My Last"…"I Do It”

@iTooDream
Any record that Chris Breezy hops on is just about fire these days, including the smash single “My Last.” While that record deserves a shout out, the rest of Big Sean’s CD definitely holds its own, and it starts with the track below.

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the beat or lyrics: B.S. been waiting a long time to shine, you can hear it his lyrics and this is a Club Record for the D-Boyz

Lyrics: I waited my whole life to be the man of the hour
Really can’t lie, I was the man when I started
I will be the man when I die
Man these girls, take your money
And I take their virginity
I’m high, I split an O in half, now it’s a parenthesis

Thoughts: Where the heck is J.Cole’s CD? Check out that last line of the lyrics above…how many music heads got that the first time around?

Finally Famous Blog Series

It’s the third installment of my 5 Part blog series…First Drake, then J. Cole and now Detroit’s Big Sean has burst on the scene with his first LP, Finally Famous. To be perfectly honest, the first time I heard this cat, I thought I was listening to Kanye West. Even after listening to him a second time in addition to finding out he’s signed to G.O.O.D. Music, his style still favors Kanye West a little. Regardless of what his music sounds like or who he’s signed with, dude goes hard. There are 12 tracks on his CD, I listen to all but 1, maybe 2 religiously.  "Now step a side and watch a real blogger* do it.”

Here’s the “Intro” to keep you interested.  Check back over the next few days to see if your favorite record off the album makes the cut.  @iTooDream

"Blessed"

18-year-old gives his $40,000 scholarship to other teens
The Story (MSNBC) This is a story of a teenager who did something so generous — so big-hearted — that it’s making plenty of adults swoon.

Allan Guei, 18, was a star basketball player at Compton High School in the Los Angeles area before he graduated last month. He also had a GPA above 3.0, and his good grades made him eligible for an unusual competition: A free-throw contest in the Compton High gymnasium. The top prize: $40,000 in scholarship money.

But Guei couldn’t stop thinking about the seven talented runners-up from the free-throw contest. They, too, had dreams — and very real needs. So, he asked Principal Jesse Jones to make a surprise announcement at Compton High’s graduation ceremony: Guei wanted to donate the $40,000 to the other seven students.

Guei elaborated on his decision to give the money away in an interview with ESPN: “I was already well taken care of to go to school, to go to university for free. ... I felt like they needed it more than I did.”

The Analysis: Honestly, I can’t even imagine having a full scholarship and then receiving a $40,000 scholarship. I would be thinking about buying my mother a car or buying my dad some new gadget as an 18 year old. But for Allan to do what he did, it’s a blessing for not only those seven students, but for him as well. The video below is a shout out to him. As a 17-18 year old, what would you have done?

"I'm Coming Out"

Nooo, not me, but former and current athletes and those associated with college and professional athletics.  I think its neat that straight athletes (so they say) like Michael Irvin are supporting the cause.

Former Dallas Cowboys great Michael Irvin appears shirtless on the cover of this month's gay men's magazine Out and discusses his passion for equality issues.

Michael Irvin appears on the latest cover of Out Magazine. He tells the publication that he would support any athlete who comes out.

Irvin publicly acknowledges that the impetus for taking a stand comes from his relationship with his gay brother, Vaughn, who died of stomach cancer in 2006. Irvin had not spoken publicly about his brother previously, according to the magazine.  In the article, Irvin describes how his brother's sexual orientation contributed to his own issues.  Read more on the article here.

Bottom line, it is what it is.  What are you going to do about it?  Stop supporting your favorite team because they have an athlete or general manager or coach who is gay.  Probably not!  Does homosexuality have a place in sports?  I'm not totally sure but its slowly creating a comfortable spot for itself with the recent coming out parties of Will Sheridan, former Pitt player, and Phoenix Suns general manager Rick Welts

Now all they need is Rajon Rondo to come out, then they will be all the way in there...no pun intended.  WHAT...don't judge me, I just said what many of you were thinking.

"Metta World Peace"

Ron Artest has and his people filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday seeking the change. The 31-year-old NBA star was born Ronald William Artest Jr but now wants to change his name to Metta World Peace.

In the court documents, Artest cites personal reasons for wanting to make the change.  And people thought Artest was crazy for thanking his hood and psychiatrist after winning an NBA championship.  Turns out he just might be.
Sidenote...I think he should have changed it to "Mo Betta Blues," it sounds better.

"My Bad" - @iTooDream

Macy's ad wrongfully congratulates Heat

My bad, well not my bad, but their bad.  Nevertheless, a full-page ad that ran in Monday's Miami Herald reads "Congratulations Miami" next to photos of Heat championship T-shirts and hats from Macy's. One T-shirt reads "Heat 2011 NBA Finals Champions" and the ad shows the Heat's logo on a hat with the words "NBA Champions."

The ad ran under a story about the Heat's loss.  Way to kick a team while they are down.  I think it's crazy how all of this hate is in the air towards Lebron James. #Leavethemanbe. I know one thing, LBJ better not catch Deshawn Stevenson in the streets...just he might go ham on him!

"Pryor Engagement"

The Story (ESPN): Terrelle Pryor's career at Ohio State, which started with so much promise and potential, came to an abrupt and scandal-ridden end.

The Ohio State quarterback announced through his attorney Tuesday that he would not play for the Buckeyes this season. He had already been suspended for the first five games for breaking NCAA rules by accepting improper benefits from the owner of a tattoo parlor.

The Analysis:  One unselfish act could have prevented all of this from happening. When OSU discovered that Pryor and others had received improper benefits back in early December 2010, they should have suspended them from the Sugar Bowl, told the truth (including the coach), and moved on. Pryor most likely would have declared for the NFL draft and OSU probably would have saved a little face, especially for being honest and upfront. Jim Tressel would still have his job as well.

Yes, the Buckeyes (Shout out to Lorain, OH’s favorite son Eddie Kane) probably would have lost the bowl game and a few million dollars. But now they stand to lose far more than a bowl game and all because of selfishness, greed, and more importantly…WINNING. The NCAA which allowed Pryor and others to play by slapping a soft 5 game suspension should share some of the blame.

I just LOL at the thought of Maurice Clarett sitting back somewhere with his feet up saying “karma is a bi*tch…”  And he couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Take the Fall Semester Off...w/ Benefits

To Expand Access, U. of Florida Prepares to Roll Out a No-Fall-Semester Option

The Story (Chronice of Higher Ed):  The University of Florida is planning to grow again, but in an unusual way—enrolling 2,000 students in a spring and summer cohort. They will be full-fledged undergraduates, but they will be allowed to live and take classes on the campus only during those semesters for the entire time they're at the university.

Those students could still participate in on-campus activities in the fall—yes, they'd be eligible for football tickets—and would be able to enroll in online courses if they wanted to move more quickly through their coursework. Others might opt to study abroad, work, or do internships away from campus in the fall.

To read the full article, click here.

The Analysis:  The news of UofF creating this option has implications that could impact public universities across the country, starting with UofF and those schools in the state of Florida.  The UofF alone has 35,000 undergraduates.  To give you an idea of how large of campus that is, there are roughly18,000 in Chapel Hill.  Offering a spring-summer term alone could impact course offerings, cost to pay faculty to teach, financial aid, and overall budget of the university.  Florida administrators I'm sure has thought this over.  But what about the overall student experience?  Academically, socially?  Can you think about the potential risk?  Are student athletes eligible for this option, especially the high profile ones?

Social groups/clubs/fraternities/student government take off in the fall, with planning and implementation and some groups initiate new members during that time.  During the summer, there is not entirely a lot to do other than to attend class and work.  How long will it take to graduate if they are attending only in the spring and summer?

Regardless of some of the questions I've raised, I honestly think this experiment will work although it may take a few years.  And as the article details, it may prove profitable for the university in the long run.  But at what cost and who expense?

"The Storm is Over Now"

And so are Classes at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC

The Story(WRAL):  Shaw University has canceled the remainder of its spring semester after taking a direct hit from the storms that rampaged across North Carolina.
University president Irma McClaurin said Sunday that the damage is so widespread the college won't be able to resume operations in time to finish up the last two weeks of class.
Graduation ceremonies for the class of 2011 will still go on as scheduled on May 7. Students will be assigned grades based on the work they've completed to this point in the semester.
Part of the roof was torn off the student center and windows were blown out in two dormitories, along with damage to other buildings.

The Analysis:  I was initially shocked and wondering why would you cancel classes for the semester...but after watching a student's video of  the actual tornado and then the aftermath that he caught on camera, now I see why.  This video left me speechless.
It will take the city to help rebuild.  Keep all folks affected by this past weekend in your prayers.

"Two Piece and a Biscuit"

Knock Em about Box Rick Nique
The Story (ESPN): A former NBA referee was charged with attacking Hall of Famer and Atlanta Hawks television analyst Dominique Wilkins in a dispute over a clothing bill.  Rashan S. Michel, a former NBA referee, was released early Thursday on $1,000 cash bond after being charged with two counts of simple battery. Michel, claiming Wilkins owes him $12,500 for suits, confronted Wilkins after Wednesday night's game against Orlando in Atlanta.

Wilkins apparently landed at least one punch. A police booking photo showed Michel with a large welt under his left eye.

The Analysis:  By the judging of the video and dude face, he got in more than just one punch.  I guess this is how it goes down in the ATL?  The best part of the video below is Dominique fixing his coat as he walks away.  I can only imagine what he was saying..."I told that fool I was gonna pay his ass when I got ready.  Jive Turkey!"

Although in the other buddy's defense, everybody know Wilkins probably owe him money.  He should have did what any other civilized person would do in a situation involving an athlete or entertainer...just file a lawsuit.  Just ask Dez Bryant!

"My Fabulous Five Friends"

Grant Hill Goes in on FAB FIVE...and Rightfully So!

The Story (ESPN/NY Times):  Former Duke basketball star Grant Hill called critical comments by former Michigan guard and current ESPN analyst Jalen Rose "sad and somewhat pathetic" in an open letter published Wednesday by The New York Times.

Rose, as part of an ESPN Films documentary "The Fab Five" that aired on Sunday (Rose was an executive producer), said Hill and other black Blue Devils basketball players recruited in the early 1990s were "Uncle Toms."

"I hated Duke and I hated everything Duke stood for. Schools like Duke didn't recruit players like me. I felt like they only recruited black players that were Uncle Toms," Rose said in the documentary.

Here is an excerpt from the letter:

I come from a strong legacy of black Americans. My namesake, Henry Hill, my father’s father, was a day laborer in Baltimore. He could not read or write until he was taught to do so by my grandmother. His first present to my dad was a set of encyclopedias, which I now have. He wanted his only child, my father, to have a good education, so he made numerous sacrifices to see that he got an education, including attending Yale.

This is part of our great tradition as black Americans. We aspire for the best or better for our children and work hard to make that happen for them. Jalen’s mother is part of our great black tradition and made the same sacrifices for him.
I caution my fabulous five friends to avoid stereotyping me and others they do not know in much the same way so many people stereotyped you back then for your appearance and swagger. I wish for you the restoration of the bond that made you friends, brothers and icons. I hope you reach closure with your university so you will enjoy all the privileges of its greatness.

I try to live my life as a good husband and father. I am proud of my family. I am proud of my Duke championships and all my Duke teammates. And, I am proud I never lost a game against the Fab Five.

The Analysis:  You know what Jalen Rose, I hate Puke as well.  I hate Puke because Coach K can...well... coach and he's good at it.  He teaches defense like no other.  He consistently PAYS gets what he wants from the refs.  He always has a shooter (JJ, Langdon, Curry) that does just that...shoot lights out!  They seem to win a national championship right around the time UNC wins so we don't have bragging rights long enough to keep the Jersey Crazies off our backs and finally, he actually looks like a  BLUE DEVIL.

I can care less of the "Uncle Tom" statuses of their African American Athletes.  Some of them are actually very smart individuals including Jay Bilas (lawyer and ESPN analyst and Grant Hill whose open letter to the New York Times made Jalen and his fab five cohort look uneducated and lacking family structure.

However, to Jalen's point, they were teenagers when they made those comments.  If you ask me to repeat half of the things I said when I was a teenager about the things I disliked, you might think of me differently (sorry mom and dad).

Nevertheless, you have to give The Fab Five credit because as Grant Hill point's out, "they represented a cultural phenomenon that impacted the country in a permanent and positive way."  But let's also credit Grant Hill for not backing down.  He's been one of the best from a sportsmanship standpoint and he handled the criticism of that documentary very well.

"Opening the Flood Gates"

Pondexter sorry for tweets, so is BING
The Story (ESPN):  New York Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter has apologized after causing an Internet uproar with comments on her Twitter account that were deemed insensitive toward victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. On Saturday, Pondexter tweeted: "What if God was tired of the way they treated their own people in there own country! Idk guys he makes no mistakes."She later tweeted: "u just never knw! They did pearl harbor so u can't expect anything less."

Pondexter also used used the racially derogatory term "jap," when referring to someone who was offended by her comments. Cappie Pondexter drove right into controversy over the weekend via Twitter.
On Monday morning, Pondexter issued an apology on her verified Twitter account "cappa23."

The Analysis:  I blame all the negative press on the Japan Earthquake on twitter, more so than facebook, and other social media sites.  They are at fault b/c without them, Pondexter and others would not be apologizing for comments that were made in good faith.  Or were they?  Now they are out there for the world to see.

In the midst of a great weekend, I was reminded that life itself is precious and should be cherished at all times.  The 5th biggest Earthquake to ever hit has left a nation of people in shocked.  Japan faces rebuilding that will last 2-3 life cycles, if not more.  They will rebuild from vanished villages however families have been broken and lost.

Many people will donate what they can.  Musicians will donate hundreds of thousands of dollars, as well as athletes, and colleges and universities will lend their support as well.

My message is simple to the likes of 50 Cent, the New York liberty point guard, BING (turned around and donated 100k after apology), and others who may or may not feel as though their comments were out of line...sometimes saying nothing at all is best.  But how can you when twitter tempts you at everyone moment.

Do you think her comments were that bad?

"What a Clown" - Larry Drew gets on MIC, disses Tar Heel

I thought I had heard it all of the Miami Heat's coach calling out his players for crying (not owt), but how about Larry "you're not missed" Drew II going off on his fellow team in a...RAP, you got to be kidding.

Big ups to my colleague KL for sending this to me.  WRAL (click title) has the full article.

See the lyrics to his diss below.   If one didn't know any better, you would think he was a Puke fan...

He could have at least came stronger than that and talked about how he how much he turned the ball over, his dad's influence kept him in the starting the lineup, how Kendall Marshall was probably busting his a** in practice everyday, how his jump shot never improved, and how he didn't get a long with his teammates (ok, so I made that one up), but who cares...you're suppose to kick a person down when they are in a slump, not when they've lost one game since you left the team.

Drew even took the stage and did a freestyle on the mic.

Everything that I'm hearing is untrue. The media? They talking but they never confront you.
I mean the last three years I can't undo, but now I'm making all the moves I want to.
Pick & rolls, I'm crossing [expletive]. Just felt like I got more game than my height showed.
They tried to tell me just to play my role, but who's really trying to stick to a script that's filled with typos?
Like a horror flick, they made me out to be a monster. [expletive] [expletive], I should have won an Oscar.
It ain't over 'til the fat lady sing, right? I brought the whole opera.
It's like Biggie, 'who shot ya?' But who who shot them? I'm so not them, but in the end I think that's what really shocked them.
I refuse to be another robot, slim.

Brawl Breaks Out in College Cafe...

The Story:  This is a developing story so they are not releasing information until all the facts are out.  It happened on the campus of Alabama State University.

The Analysis:  The power of smart phones...You can't do nothing these days without getting put on YOU TUBE!

The key word here is COLLEGE.  Nevertheless, the incident is just flat out disgraceful.  Whatever happened to people just taking it to the grass.  This is scary for parents.  To think you sent your son or daughter to get an education and now you have to worry about football players (allegedly) and want to be gang members (allegedly) pretending like their students fighting.  We got to do better.

"Ohh my Goodness..."

I almost choked on some curley fries, OSII bout jump through the floor, and Maddox damn near pissed on himself...all in the matter of seconds...Is this one of the best live action dunks during all star festivities?

It's up there, but I say no, here is the best all star weekend dunk  (it was 05, HD was not in existence just yet).

The dunk below cost me $10.00...something told me not to bet my money on McGee, especially after Dr. J kissed his momma in the mouth...tell you saw that...if not see below!

I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus Dr. J.  She gotta donk though!  No pun intended.

"Unfit to Be a King"

The Story(fox sports):  Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was barred from the team's flight to Phoenix after a locker room altercation with teammate Donte Greene, The Sacramento Bee reported Sunday.

Cousins was angered not to have got a touch in the final seconds of the last play, which ended with Tyreke Evans missing a 3-pointer, in the 99-97 defeat to Oklahoma City on Saturday night and called Greene out after the game.

The pair traded words and needed to be separated. Greene had insisted to reporters that Cousins was not open during the play, a view supported by Kings coach Paul Westphal.

The result was Cousins staying in Sacramento.

The Analysis:  I knew this dude was trouble as soon as I saw him do the douggie (click link) ask Coach Calipari at Kentucky "why the hell you take me out the game" on national television.  That was just one of many instances he was caught cussing Coach C out when he played at Kentucky.  And the Kings thought he was going to change.  In my opinion, kids (he acting like a child) don't deserve to play in the NBA.  He has way too much talent to be acting like that way.

Melo to the Lakers? - "The Big Three Examination"

Lakers and Nuggets are in Talks with Knicks and T-Wolves still in the picture...

If this happens, the Lakers will go from being beatable this year, especially with the Spurs and Thunder on a roll in addition to the Celtics and Hear, to being unstoppable.  Hands down, and I'm not a Lakers fan, just a "wanna be" sports analyst.  Carmelo's jumper paired with Kobe Bryant will be a tough match up for everyone in the Western Conference.  With the possibility of this trade happening, I've decided to examine poke fun at "The Big Three's" around the NBA.

The "Most Known" Big Three:
Lakers:  Kobe, Gasol, Carmelo (if trade happens)

Celtics:  Peirce, Allen, Garnett

Heat:  Wade, Bron-Bron, Bosh

The "Under Appreciated" Big Three

"Omega Dear"

The Story (CNN):  YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio—Partygoers stampeded to escape gunfire that killed one college student and wounded 11 people at an Ohio fraternity house, authorities said Monday as they searched for a motive in the weekend shooting.

Jamail E. Johnson, 25, a senior at Youngstown State University, was shot to death early Sunday as he tried to separate two groups at an Omega Psi Phi fraternity house party. Authorities say there had been a dispute, two men had left the house and then returned and sprayed bullets into the crowd. Among the injured was a critically wounded 17-year-old.

When the shots rang out, "it was practically a stampede atmosphere," according to witness accounts, city prosecutor Jay Macejko said.

Investigators did not know what the initial argument was about and had yet to determine a motive for the shooting, Youngstown Police Chief Jimmy Hughes said Monday. The two suspects were neither students at the university nor members of the fraternity, police said.

The two men, Braylon L. Rogers, 19, and Columbus E. Jones Jr., 22, were charged with aggravated murder, shooting into a house and 11 counts of felonious assault, said Hughes. They were being held at the Mahoning County Jail, said jail officials, who did not know whether the men were represented by attorneys.

Johnson and the others were shot off-campus at a two-story brick house in a neighborhood of once-elegant homes, many of which are now boarded up. The house party had been bustling with 50 or more people early Sunday, the police chief said.

Johnson apparently was trying to separate two groups when he was shot, Capt. Rod Foley said. He was shot once in the head and multiple times in his hips and legs, said Dr. Joseph Ohr, a forensic pathologist with the coroner's office. An autopsy is planned Monday.

The wounded ranged in age from 17 to 31; six were students. About half were shot in the foot, police said. Two were hit in the abdomen. The 17-year-old was wounded near one ear.

Members of the university-sanctioned fraternity lived at the house, though Cooper said the fraternity does not own it. He said that after the shooting, Johnson's fraternity brothers were "very solemn, very alarmed, very hurt."
Johnson had recently traveled to North Carolina for a fraternity program emphasizing manhood and scholarship, said Christopher Cooper, a legal officer for Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
The Analysis:  I don't have any, I'm just at a lost for words.  Keep this young man's family in your prayers as well as others injured in the shooting.

A Family Affair

Brawl Ignites During High School Basketball Game In CharlotteThe Story (NBC17):  A parent is under arrest after inciting a brawl at a high school basketball game in Charlotte Friday night.  WCNC in Charlotte reports the incident occurred during a game between the Butler Bulldogs and the East Mecklenburg Eagles when a Butler player’s father started arguing with a school resource officer.

The argument began when the resource officer asked the man's daughter to move from the East Meck side of the gym back to the Butler side. The father became angry and got into an argument with the officer. The man’s wife and daughter then got involved and began hitting the officer on the head. The father was arrested and further arrests are possible.  WCNC says it is a common practice for students from different schools to sit separately at high school games.

No one was seriously hurt during the incident.

The Analysis:  Really, no one was seriously hurt?  Didn't look like it to me.  All I really have to say is "It All Starts at Home."  There is no place for such bufoonery (it's a word, i looked it up), especially at your child's basketball game.  I'm not going to go in on this situation because I wouldn't mind living in Charlotte one day soon.  However this incident coupled with the fact that The First 48 is now in Charlotte, I may have to move them a few cities down on my list.

The Cost of a Free of Education

Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school districtThe Story(CNN): An Ohio mother is in jail after being convicted of tampering with records to enroll her children in a better school district.  Kelley Williams-Bolar, 40, of Akron, illegally registered her two daughters at her father's address in suburban Copley Township to get them into the Copley-Fairlawn school district rather than the urban Akron district, a jury decided.

The Akron City school district met only four of 26 standards on the latest Ohio Department of Education Report Card and had a 76% graduation rate. Copley-Fairlawn City Schools met 26 of 26 standards and had a 97.5% graduation rate.  Summit County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Cosgrove sentenced Williams-Bolar last week to five years in prison, but suspended all but 10 days. Williams-Bolar also must serve 80 hours of community service and will be on probation for three years.

The Analysis:  If such rules were enforced all over the country, then the our correctional facilities would truly be over populated, especially in the state of Texas.  During a time where our President has placed a huge emphasis on Higher Education, a woman is penalized for wanting to put her children in the best position to succeeed academically.  School districts bend the rules all the time for student athletes.  The larger issue is why does one school across town have more resources than the other.  And I thought "seperate but equal" didn't exist anymore...

Part V. Home for the Holidays

This track is probably one of his most personal records on the mixtape. His lyrics speak to larger issues that deal with bullying and self-confidence. I’m trying to think of some instances where I was affected by such issues in high school.  I've noted a few instances below where I don't know who was actually behind the act, but nevertheless, I wanted to show them some love on my blog.  May they continue to be blessed.

Punchline 1: damn homie, in high school you was the man homie
*freak* happened to you,
used to beat *dudes* down at the buses after school
now you looking like a *muthafreakin* fool

Punchline 2: was just a freshman could used a little Kool-aid
crushing on them upper classmen but it was too late
buddy she was dating yeah he had the freshest shoes
but the *dude* graduated and he never made two a’s

I want to shout out whoever it was that stole my lunch money out of my pants pockets while I was in gym class in my freshman year of high school. And the person who rode the same bus as me that decided to pour water in my book bag and soaked up all my textbooks and notebooks. And whoever it was that stole the Pre-Calc teacher from Canada’s grade book and flushed down the toilet in the boys restroom across the hall from her classroom…punch line 1 is for you!

Part IV. Blow Up

“This is a song for my haters. Ya'll got me feeling like the greatest.” - J.Cole

I honestly think sometimes people misidentify the “haters” in their life. In addition, “haters” are not always people that are preventing you from blowing up! We should also be aware of these haters as well:

credit cards

student loans

a purse that cost over $100.00

sunglasses that cost over $20.00

a single clothing item that cost over $65.00

And that’s just name a few…

Punchline: Momma said I should reconsider law school
that means I wear a suit and bend the truth and feel awful
hell naw, got a degree but what that cost you
you make a good salary just to pay SallieMae CFNC

Part III. In the Morning

Renegade. Mr. Carter. Miss me. Most notably, the first two rap titles are songs where the featured artist on the song dropped the dopest lyrics and unanimously upstaged the other artist. Eminem hands down gained the respect of Jay-Z on renegade. However the self-proclaimed real President Carter while giving props to Lil Wayne took the opportunity to make it clear that he hasn’t lost his touch in a classic song that I only hear while listening to the Rickey Smiley Morning show out of Dallas and of course Q.93 while visiting New Orleans. The record below has Drake’s name and style written all over it and while J. Cole did his thing, Drake win’s round one of I’m sure, many more to come.

Punchline: I’m joking, I mean that thing is poking
I mean you kinda like that girl that’s in the US Open
I mean I got this hidden agenda that you provoking
I got bath water that you can soak in

What’s better: the morning rendezvous without taking a shower and brushing your teeth or something poking out “more” than the girl in the U.S. Open? LOL!

Part II. The Autograph

J. Cole impresses with humble lyrics about being broke while also possessing a confident swag about being in a better place now because of his music. Before last year, I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought a CD. It was probably when lymewire made my second laptop (I blame the first one on CCI/napster) crash and right around the time YouTube was getting popular so there was no need to. I’ve bought a few over the past year. Can’t wait to add J. Cole to the collection.

Punchline: “J. Cole homie, can you sign my burnt CD”
boy please, an album ten dollars
you act like it’s ten g’s
this food for thought cost the same as 2 number three’s
so at ease with that broke sh*t
we all tryna get a dollar boy, no sh*t

Society itself spends money on the things that are not healthy for the body and soul: fast food, beer, tobacco, etc. However we steal illegally borrow music and in the process cause more damage to our personal or work computes (some people) than we ever know. And I’m sure there is some flea market vendor right telling me to **** *** ***!

Part I. Villematic

I don’t think I’ve ever hear heard another rapper who’s not from one of the five boroughs in New York rep their city (Fayetteville, NC) as much as J. Cole. I’m not complaining either…(also check out “Too Deep for the Intro”)

Punchline: It's the feeling in the air you bout to drop a real classic
He said Cole, "a lil birdy told me on the low you got an Illmatic"
Nobody touching Nas *dude* it's more like Villematic
These fayettnam tales be paying off well
What story is my audio theatre gon tell
I know my debut will ship, but is it gon sell?

Cole raps over a smooth sample and beat with a first line that is relevant to every college student waiting on a refund check that’s going to get them through the next few months. He also presents the realization that with an economy that doesn’t seem to be getting better any time soon, life, like school, will have its challenges.

"Cole World"

I went home to visit my family in Louisiana, the exact time evades me, but when I returned to North Carolina, I started passing out cd’s to friends. The artist, as I had learned from my cousins Pye and Butta had aligned (unofficially) himself with the Young Money crew. He goes by the name of Drake. I opened up my blog with a 5 part series on his music.

A few years later I’m back with another artist from a city I also call home and this time, his cd was passed to me. I’m still getting warmed up to “The Warm Up” mixtape but ever since NS handed me his flash drive and presented me with a copy of “Friday Night Lights,” I’m not sure I’ve heard a better young and upcoming mainstream lyricists and I’m willing to argue that while his buzz may not be on the level of Drizzy Drake, his lyrics are just as good, maybe better. I’m back with a 5 part series on J. Cole. Part I from his latest mixtape is on tap. In the meantime, here is a teaser from one of his previous mixtapes.

I couldn't resist...had to give y'all another from his latest...
