“The “Book” of Evil”

Another one bites the dust. And another. And another…first the cornball that got handcuffed to his bed by his ex girl, then the various teachers across the world, a few in the QC, one recently in this area who was suspended for what her friends wrote on her page, and now an athlete from the Bad News Ducks (Oregon) gets kicked off the team because he updated his facebook status after the arrest of a teammate for suspicion of driving under the influence. In his post, Jamere Holland wrote: "I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I'm misunderstood." This is after he mistakenly concluded that his teammate got kicked off the team and blasted the program calling it unfair and damaging to the team.

First off, I got two words for him...”NOT OWT.”  At what point as young person do you say to yourself somethings are just not worth it.

Secondly, all of this leads me to the first question, is there privacy on facebook? That’s an easy one! The answer is NO. I always say that when you post a personal picture, status, comment, etc, you are inviting everyone into your home/personal life. Trust me, I’ve tried to set all the privacy settings I can, but facebook will change their system every 3 months and your page becomes public all over again.  Why bother right?

More importantly, should people be fired, kicked off athletic teams, not hired/considered for jobs because of facebook? Whatever happened to freedom of speech and expression?

Nothing, because there are spirited ways of expressing yourself. The reality of it is…some people just don’t belong on facebook. Especially them party promoters who be sending all of them party invites! LOL!

If you can change one thing about facebook, what would it be?

"NO DUNKING ALLOWED"

The all star weekend's Saturday activities is comparable to a rec center gym growing up where if somebody dunked the basketball, they kicked you out of the gym. All four contestants should have been kicked out of the arena. Gerald Wallace should cut his hair off after that dunk contest perfomance (did you see Dwight Howard's face after the Wallace dunk). Shannon Brown was just as bad. Demar DeRozen showed a glimpse but then blew it and the only reason Nate Robinson won is because he's shorter than everybody else and when he dunks, his effort alone makes his dunks look like something.

By far the worse dunk contest ever. I'm starting a petition now for the following contests/events to be considered for All-Star Weekend next year. Feel free to comment on what you would like to see.

* A dunk contest between former or current NBA players over 40 years of age...one, at least it would be entertaining, and two, it can't be any worse then what we just saw. I can see Charles Barkley now trying to dunk a basketball (HAHA!)

* A groupie race! Set up the stations like they have at Carolina games when the little kid has to put on the big uniform, then dribble down the court and make a lay-up. Only, in addition to putting on an oversized uniform, they must put it on over the out fit they planned to wear out to the club that night. WINNER gets free tickets to the saturday night after party. (don't judge me, yall know it's people out there who would enter this contest).

* Dunk contest between non-basketball professional players or maybe even the And-1 mixtape people (are they still around).  As much as people hate him, T. Owens has some hops!

* Skip Saturday night and go straight to the All-Star Game, the dunks were way more exciting...see below

I'm saying...something is better than nothing!

"From Bad...to WORSE?"

ED Davis Breaks Wrist, Out At Least Six Weeks

X-rays on Thursday morning confirmed the broken bone.

Feb. 12, 2010

CHAPEL HILL - Sophomore forward Ed Davis, North Carolina's leading rebounder and shot blocker and second-leading scorer, will be sidelined for at least six weeks with a broken bone in his left wrist, head coach Roy Williams announced this morning.

Davis broke the lunate bone in left wrist when he fell to the floor in a mid-lane collision with 9:16 to play against Duke on Feb. 10 and the game tied 43-43. He had the wrist taped and re-entered the game but did not score again. He tied his career high with six blocked shots against the Blue Devils.

Right when a colleague of mine and fellow UNC alum asked the question..."Can it get any worse?"

I was left shaking my head at the following...(shout out to DT and KL for sending me these stories)

"Williams apologizes for Haiti Reference"
Roy Williams apologized Thursday for a clumsy comparison he made this week between North Carolina's season-long struggles and the earthquake that killed more than 200,000 people in Haiti last month.

The Hall-of-Fame coach made the comments to reporters Tuesday.

Williams said, "Massage therapist told me, she said, 'You know, coach, what happened in Haiti is a catastrophe. What you're having is a disappointment.' And I told her that depends on what chair she was sitting in. Because it does feel like a catastrophe to me, because it is my life."

"Hey Coach...don't let em see you sweat!"  Oh wait, nevermind, too late!
It's going to be busy summer for Carolina Basketball (Men's and Women's).  It's exciting just to think about the future.  Isn't it?

"OH NO HE DIT-TEN - OH SNAP!"

Yes, apparently he did!

Just when the music world takes two steps forward (2010 We are the World Remake), they give them right back. And this time believe it or not, it’s wasn't Kanye West.

I’m trying to figure out why I am so shocked to hear about singer John Mayer dropping the “N” word recently in a playboy interview. It’s sad to say this, but just like many others, it won’t be the last time he says it, only the last time he says it in a public interview…and even that’s a maybe! (Shout out to DM for sending this to me)
Read Article Here

Playboy assisted in Mayer’s rant by asking all the wrong questions and like a dummy he responded with answers that had TMI, in fact way more information than the public needed to know, especially comparing his private part to a white supremacist. NOT COOL!

This isn’t the first time John Mayer has been on front street. In a January Rolling Stone interview, buddy made a series of crude comments about women’s private parts.

The hit song “Daughters” was consistently in my music rotation just a few years back.

I am honestly more shocked by his foul language and the way he talked about women.  Oh well, I’m sure like Tiger, this too shall past. I can hear some old person right now saying..."Where is Rev. Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson when you need them?" HAHA!

"Feeling (Carolina) Blue"

An almost forgotten team, maybe to some; A forgotten program, –NEVER.

While sometimes I would like to trade in Dexter Strickland’s out of control ball handling while trying to dribble through 3 people, or Marcus Ginyard’s inconsistent jumper, or Larry Drew’s inability to pass the ball to someone in a blue or white jersey on a fast break that’s not there, or Ed Davis’ reluctance to use the backboard, or DeonThompson’s fade away lay-up, or Will Graves inability to player longer than 2 ½ minutes without getting tired, the truth of the matter is outside of all them being very gifted (better than me) in basketball, I'm not giving up on them because... WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM.

So who am I to write these things about them? Right? Sort of, because I’m sure everything that I’ve mentioned, they’ve been told over and over again. I write it because I care…

…from every turnover to every steal, from every blocked shot to every point, from every loss to each win…it doesn't change the fact that WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM.

Let’s be honest, the #4 ranking to start the season was very generous. And now to think we are 3, maybe 4 losses away from being one of three teams to win a National Championship and not make it back to the NCAA tournament the following year is… very humbling!

I have a feeling UNC’s young basketball team’s struggles will not end after the Wednesday night game (win or loss) versus Duke.  Another loss would mean we inch one step closer to what I mentioned above.  One win against Puke would make all the other losses an after thought.

To all my Puke friends (Scotty et all), my one family member (shout out to Aunt Felecia) and the rest of the Carolina Basketball naysayers …ENJOY, because it won’t last very LONG!

I AM a UNC TARHEEL…and so are they. WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME!

“Tip Drill...”

…for a good cause, I suppose. A strip club in Ohio has raised $1,000 for Haitian earthquake relief during what was billed as "Lap dances for Haiti." The club in Toledo donated the $10 cover charges collected Saturday to ISOH (I-S-O-H)/IMPACT, an organization based in suburban Perrysburg that provides food and clothing for Haiti.

Marilyn's general manager Kenny Soprano says his establishment had been looking for a reason to hold a charity fundraiser even before the quake, as a way to improve its image. He says you don't hear much about strip clubs giving back to the community.

ISOH/IMPACT CEO Linda Greene doesn't have a problem with where the money came from. She says her group appreciates any donations to help Haiti.

@ Linda Greene, spoken like a true business woman!

In all seriousness though, it was a kind hearted gesture. I’m just not sure donating $1,000 or any amount of money for that matter can clean up an image of a strip club.

"Waiting for Superman"

You ever wonder how (insert name here) graduated high school? How many times during your undergraduate career did you hear a classmate and or close friend say my high school did not prepare me for (insert college institution here)’s academics. What are the percentages that the high school mentioned was public.? I’d s say 98%.

Davis Guggenheim premiered a documentary titled “Waiting for Superman” at the 2010 Sundance International Film Festival which examines the crisis of public education in the U.S. through multiple interlocking stories from a handful of students and their families who future hang in the balance while educators and reformers try to find a real and lasting solutions within a dysfunctional system.

I’m just not sure there is one. It’s hard to believe sometimes that an adamant amount of our public school systems are failing. It’s evident that a lack of resources is probably first and foremost.

But if you gave both a private and a public school the same amount resources, I personally think the level of learning would not increase or decrease anymore than what it already was at the school.

For a long time we’re pointed fingers at the parents and responsibility lies there. But the school system has a share in that and that begins with the educators/teachers. While I think teachers are underpaid never get the recognition they deserve, there are other educators who struggle with identifying with both the current educational curriculum and the new generation of students. These are the same teachers who pass students thinking they are doing them a huge favor. These are the same teachers who are bribing our students –money for grades, showing all kinds of videos in class instead of teaching. These are our teachers who are non-certified or who are unqualified to teach their subject areas.

Let’s not leave our youth behind. Reach one…teach one.
