Girl Gone Wild

Brittney Griner, the dunking freshman sensation for Baylor (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today, No. 14 AP), has been suspended for at least one game after throwing a punch that broke an opposing player's nose in a Big 12 game.

She's the most talked about female basketball player in a long time.  She can dunk off a drop step.  Her buzz started in high school.  ESPN did a story on her earlier in the college basketball season.  She was almost averaging a double double.  But now, she's in the news for the wrong reason.  All over a stupid foul (SMH)!

I agree with many of the sports writers in that there is no place in sports for such behavior.  That punch was vicious though.

  1. WOW!!!!!....Lucky for her there is only one game left in the season, or else she would probably be out for a lot longer. I think that punch was a bit much. By the time an athlete makes it to a collegiate level, they have been playing organized sports long enough to have developed good sportsmanship. Also, most of these girls are hoping to make it to the WNBA, she better hope she hasn't ruined that chance for herself.

  2. OMG!!!! Of course she should not have punched the girl. Way too much...flag on the play...not acceptable!! This is probably something that had been going on all game. Ol' girl fouled her hard as you know what and then tried to walk away like she was bad. Even though the ref. called a foul on her for that particular offense, what was going on previously? You don't just punch some body off of one foul.

With that said, bottom line is she was dead wrong...and I'm sure she knows it by now. Hopefully, she learned her lesson. I hope the girl who got punched learned her lesson as well.

  3. Mya...c'mon now. You've played basketball before, people get fouled hard all the time, she should have not hit that girl. Also, she only got two games for that. She should be suspended for a longer period of time!
